This is the first time in the post-colonial period where the fate of an entire party is being decided, i.e. if the MPs will drop out and leave the parliament
Close to the European elections, the decision of the Electoral Court on the fate of the “Spartiates” party is expected.
It is recalled that yesterday, Wednesday, the Supreme Special Court, known as the Electoral Court, heard appeals filed for the legality of the Spartan party’s participation in the parliament.
According to what the journalist stated on the morning show of SKAI “Today”. Ioanna Mandrou, this is the first time in the post-colonial period where the fate of an entire party is decided, i.e. if the MPs will drop out and leave the parliament.
According to Mrs. Mandrou, the appeals state that the “Spartians” were wrongly entered the Parliament, wrongly participated in the elections because behind this party during the pre-election period and with the help that came out was Ilias Kasidiaris, something that the legislation prohibits. In short, there was a fraud on the electorate.
As Mrs. Mandrou said, the possibility of the party’s MPs dropping out increases a lot as there is currently an open criminal investigation by the Supreme Court prosecutor who has called as suspects all the MPs of the “Spartians” for defrauding the electorate as she has considered that there are very strong indications that Kasidiaris was behind the party.
If the MPs are eventually dropped, the scenario with the greatest chance of success is to be replaced by MPs from the other parties that each party has in the electoral district where the Spartan MP has been elected. As a result, the current parties will increase their seats. As for the scenario of repeat elections in the specific constituencies, this is not considered as likely.
