“Nothing like this has ever happened”, i.e. “the Ministry of the Interior deactivated the e-mail address of the epistoliki.ypes.gov.gr platform” categorically points out the gen. Secretary of the Interior and Organization Athanasios Balerbas in his clarifying statements, regarding inaccurate reports on the operation of the postal voting platform, “mainly by opposition officials and a section of the press.”

Specifically, Mr. Balermas points out that “the reports about unsafe operation – and not about deactivation, as a small portion of the press erroneously reported – referred to the e-mail address apodimoi.gov.gr. However, he adds, the operation of this address was terminated – and therefore it ceased to have the relevant security certificate – on July 28, 2023, the day of publication of Law 5044/2023 which introduced all restrictions on registration in the special electoral rolls of foreign voters .

The very next day, on July 29, 2023, the new website was launched apodimoi.ypes.gov.gr which would host the platform for registration in the special electoral lists of foreign voters, without any restrictions.

It is recalled that on February 19, 2024, the postal voting platform was activated, at the electronic address epistoliki.ypes.gov.grwhich since then has been operating continuously and without any problems at all, having registered up to Tuesday, March 5, over 23,000 registrations of Greek voters from 94 different countries”.
