The Minister of Migration clarified that the flow concerns Egyptians leaving due to the economic crisis in their country, however that the boats do not leave Egypt, but come through Libya
“The flow of migrants from eastern Libya is small, controlled but with an increasing trend, which worries and concerns us, which is why we are taking a series of initiatives to deal with this new front” the Minister of Immigration and Asylum Dimitris Kairidis told SKAI today .
The minister clarified that the flow concerns Egyptians who leave due to the economic crisis in their country, pointing out however that the boats that come do not leave Egypt, but come through Libya.
“The reality in the Eastern Mediterranean Corridor is very good as we are down more than 75% from the highs of last September and in the last few days we have had almost no flow. In the Evros, the flow has been reduced to zero,” said the minister.
Regarding the financial support package for Egypt from the EU, which is mentioned in the Financial Times, Mr. Kairidis emphasized that Greece wants and has claimed the European support for Egypt, pointing out that “this country hosts 9 million refugees and so far it has not let any boatloads of migrants leave it.”
