In the plenary session of the Parliament, the conclusion of the commission of inquiry on “the investigation of the crime of Tempe” is discussed. In the conclusion, which was approved by the majority of the commission, it was emphasized that, if the rules of the General Traffic Regulation had been strictly observed, the accident of February 28, 2023 in Tempe, would not have happened.

After finishing his speech president of the KO of SYRIZA-PS Sokratis Famellos took the floor Minister of State, Makis Voridis, asking if SYRIZA will submit a request for the establishment of a Preliminary Committee. “I understood your belief that if nothing else there are indications of the commission of criminal offenses by the ministers. What I did not understand is, since you have this conviction, you will submit a proposal for the establishment of a preliminary committee?” he said. He added that “such a proposal has not been submitted”, i.e. “a proposal linking the specific homicides or the obstruction of transport with this criminal form has not been submitted to Parliament for discussion” and that “the proposal that was rejected, I recall, was a proposal that it concerned various issues of possible breach of duty or disloyalty for accounting and financial issues of the execution of the contract 717”. “I want you to clarify for me, will you table such a proposal in Parliament or not?”, he said.

Sokratis Famellos commented that Mr. Voridis probably did not hear his speech. After saying that he does not recognize the right to represent a government whose laws he does not vote for, Mr. Famellos repeated: “We are facing a great moral and political dilemma. While we have indications, proofs of responsibility for violation of responsibilities or for omissions of ministers that are causally connected – and the investigative material provides this – with the crime of Tempe, we know – and you have announced it – that if we submit a proposal for a pre-investigation committee you have decided – and you said it since November 15 – to amnesty your own politicians”. “So we know very well that you already did this once on November 22nd, a week later. So we have a political dilemma: To follow the obligation we have from the indications that are being revealed in droves or to ask, going beyond even this evidence but uniting the entire opposition, to search the whole file or Justice? So we’ve gone above and beyond and we’re putting this dilemma to you,” he said. He emphasized: “We are asking the Parliament to take a unanimous decision and say that, as provided for and allowed for in the Constitution, the Judiciary should check all misdemeanors by omission of political figures. The question is now for you, Mr. Voridis. Can you stand it? Why didn’t they accept the lifting of immunity?” “We say everything to the Justice, all the responsibilities without any cover-up, but you serve an organized cover-up plan”, he said, adding that the absence of Mr. Mitsotakis “proves that he does not respect the memory of the victims, their families, the one and a half million signatures, the Greek Parliament, the Judiciary”.

Returning, Mr. Voridis commented that what he understood is that “on the one hand you judge that there are criminal responsibilities, on the other hand you will not submit the proposal for the establishment of a preliminary committee”. “The motion for recommendation has issues because you have to say the offenses, you have to describe them, you have to say exactly the behaviors, you have to describe the negligence, you have to have a specialized criminal discussion, you don’t even take responsibility for this proposal. This has resulted from your position today,” he said.
