Yannis Oikonomou, speaking to SKAI, described Stefanos Kasselakis’ move for elections with international observers as politically outrageous and argued that the opposition’s strategy aims to exploit the tragedy and cause political disorder.

“Mr. Kasselakis’ move is politically outrageous not only because it delegitimizes a fresh popular mandate, from last summer, but also because it poses an issue that directly questions the greatest acquis in Greek political history from the Postcolonial period onwards. No one thought to dispute it.

This is a move that signals escalation, based on a flimsy and bogus argument to cover up a massive tragedy. Based on this argument, a strategy is being developed by the Opposition – I am clear and I am taking out of the equation the relatives to whom we owe respect and lower our eyes – with two goals:

The instrumentalization of tragedy and the provoking of a political anomaly.

We had a front page, at least of questionable credibility that repeats known incidents.

The main thing is that politicians, journalists, citizens are not judges. Judges are not politicians. The Government has from the first moment the sacred duty to ensure that the Judiciary will do its work in the most correct way.

We have seen many times in the past when it came time to judge a case, it was completely different from politics. The Judiciary does its work unhindered on many levels” said Mr. Economou.
