The non-negotiable commitment of Greece to the faithful implementation of the European acquis and international law in the management of migration flows and the protection of European borders, as well as in the protection of human life at sea, the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy stressed, Christos Stylianidisduring a meeting he had today with his Executive Director Frontex, Mr. Hans Leijtens.

The meeting, which took place in a very positive atmosphere, focused on the productive cooperation between Greece and Frontex in the context of the Organization’s activities in our country. In particular, the prospect of strengthening the ongoing operations and improving the response of the European Union (EU) to the major challenges that have arisen due to geopolitical developments was discussed.

Mr. Stylianides also underlined the strategic and mutually beneficial relationship of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard with Frontex for the protection of the maritime borders, which are also the borders of Europe, emphasizing at the same time the need to recognize the continuous effort made every day by the officers of the LS – EL.AKT., in very difficult conditions, for the protection of human life at sea and the internal security of the EU

Present at the meeting was the Chief of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard, Vice Admiral L.S. Georgios Alexandrakis, the 2nd Deputy Commander of the L.S. – EL.AKT., Rear Admiral L.S. Tryfon Kontizas, the Director of the Minister’s Office, Mr. Filippos Savvidis, the Director of the Security and Policing Branch of the L.S. – EL.AKT., Rear Admiral L.S. Pantelis Hametis, the Coordinator of the Secretary General of the L.S. – EL.AKT., Rear Admiral L.S. Christos Kontorouchas and the Director of the Integrated Maritime Surveillance Service of the L.S. – EL.AKT., Master L.S. Dimitris Varouxakis.
