The reaction of the government representative was caused by his statements Socrates Famellou and other executives SYRIZA regarding the court decision on the tragedy in Mati.

THE Pavlos Marinakis pointed out:

“All things in life have a limit, except for the lies of SYRIZA.

The Minister of Justice, Mr. Floridis, responded in detail yesterday, in the Parliament, to the statements of the SYRIZA Representative and the Head of the KO of the Official Opposition party regarding the issuance of the first instance decision on the tragedy in Mati.

Unrepentant, they try to make the Criminal Code black and white and play political games -again- on the pain of the victims’ relatives, invoking Law 5090/2024 of the Ministry of Justice.

In fact, many of their executives went so far as to falsify the statements of the President of the Athens Bar Association.

This law could not be taken into account by the judges, because its application starts today, May 1st. For the record, in chapter H, article 138, par. 1 of Law 5090/2024 states verbatim: “With the reservation of par. 2 and 3, the validity of this starts from 1.5.2024”, except of certain articles, which do not fall under the disputed article 12. One can ascertain the above by reading the very last article of the law.

In any case, a simple comparison of the provisions in the Criminal Code legislated by SYRIZA and those legislated by the Government of New Democracy, shows the degree of hypocrisy of the official opposition party, even to the most skeptical.

Indicative:

With the SYRIZA Penal Code, a maximum total sentence of 5 years could be imposed for serial manslaughter. With Law 4855/2021 the maximum limit of total punishment was increased to 8 years and with Law 5090/2024 it became 10 years.

Arson of a forest through negligence that causes death or ecological destruction is characterized by the SYRIZA Penal Code as a minor misdemeanor, with a minimum penalty of only 10 days with a suspended sentence.

According to the Penal Code legislated by the Government of the New Republic, the above offense is a serious felony, with a minimum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a maximum of 20 years imprisonment, a fine of up to 200,000 euros and confiscation of the offender’s property.

Arson of a forest with intent to cause death, under the SYRIZA Criminal Code, was punishable by a prison sentence of up to 15 years, which in practice was much less. With the Criminal Code legislated by the Government of the Netherlands, the only penalty is life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after a substantial judgment by the Judicial Council at 18 years.

And because they remembered the suspension and commutation of the sentences, let’s emphasize that with the SYRIZA Criminal Code, the sentences for misdemeanors had a “symbolic character”, as they were usually suspended.

On the contrary, with the Criminal Code legislated by the Government of ND, any sentence of more than one year is not “virtual” but real, as it is served in various ways and is NOT suspended.”
