Her existential threat faced by the country from Turkey the Minister of National Defense underlined again Nikos Dendias from the floor of the Parliament, expressing his anxiety about the need for defensive shielding of Greece.
“The country faces an existential threat when there is a neighboring country that disputes rule of thumbnot only of sovereign rights and international conditions concerning minority designation, this obviously qualifies as an existential threat.
The legal and geographical boundaries of our homeland are also threatened. We must be ready for this, even though we welcome in the most absolute way the low tones and the better climate that exists with neighboring Turkey in the last period of time”, emphasized the Minister of National Defense, making special reference to equipmentpointing out that in the immediate future he will submit to the competent committee of the Parliament the construction program for “constellation” frigates, the F35 and submarines.
“We are open to the 4th frigate and the corvettes and we are also studying the issue of the LCS, if America gives us for free, I repeat for free the USA, these frigates that we, the Hellenic Navy, judge that could serve the needs of the medium time,” added Nikos Dendias, with the minister clarifying that the Navy needs modernization:
“Turkey has entered a great cycle of shipbuilding and material acquisition, Greece has always claimed supremacy at sea. It is obvious that the Navy needs a modernization, we fell far behind during the years of crisis, time must be gained.”
