Fierce criticism with heavy fire against the government and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, spearheaded by her accuracy but even more widely the political agenda was launched by Nikos Androulakis with his rise to her step Parliament during the agenda discussion on accuracy.

First, Mr. Androulakis commented on the campaign message of ND “Standing closer to Europe” saying that “with the exception of your founder Konstantinos Karamanlis and our entry into the then European Communities, what else have you done?” In 1999, you denounced the Helsinki Convention that brought Cyprus into the European Union. In 2002 it was you who slandered our country for its entry criteria into the euro. A few years later, and after you bankrupted the country, you endangered the country’s position in the euro, since even if we had voted like you, Mr. Mitsotakis, that is, together with SYRIZA and the KKE, we would now be on the drachma.”

The president of PASOK-Movement for Change argued that with the policy followed by the ND “not only do we not converge with the indicators that describe the well-being of the European peoples but we constantly diverge, resulting in us competing for the last positions in critical economic, social and institutional issues” .

Questioning whether the policy applied by the government in many areas is in line with the policies applied in other EU countries, Nikos Androulakis made a special reference to the rule of law, saying that everyone in the ND is responsible for not implementing the decision of the Council of Ministers to inform him because he was being monitored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while, addressing the prime minister, he emphasized:

“Mr. Mitsotakis, you and I are not consistently closer to Europe. On the contrary, you are the reason we are moving away from the European acquis every day”.

Regarding the acute problem of accuracy, Mr. Androulakis noted that the cost of living is skyrocketing and the salaries of employees are losing their purchasing power day by day with effects on the demographics and the insurance structures.

He contradicted the government’s position that it has reduced taxes, but “even the wage earner on the basic entry-level salary of 830 gross now pays tax,” he said while adding that it is the worrying rise in inequalities.

“The government’s narrative that it’s all about ‘imported precision’ is debunked if we take a look at the timeline of food and headline inflation which rose steadily throughout 2021, escalated and apparently continued in the first eight months of 2022 reaching up to 12% on an annual basis”, observed the president of PASOK-KINAL. He emphasized that “in the fall of 2022, complacency gives way to complete derailment. While the rate of increase in headline inflation is gradually stabilizing, albeit at very high levels, food inflation is beginning to escalate rapidly. In practice, we are seeing food price appreciation taking place at almost twice the speed of other market sectors.”

The president of PASOK-KINAL accused the government of not doing anything to prevent developments in price increases and of resting, handing out aid and subsidies without criteria, without crossing real losses, without targeting.

“From June 2021 to today we have consistently had higher food inflation than the average of the 27 member states. After the last national elections, from July 2023 until today, there is not even a single month when food prices in Greece are lower than the European average! ” stressed Mr. Androulakis, citing detailed data on large increases in basic food products and accused the government of how “in your days there is a huge redistribution of wealth: the gap between wages and profits is constantly widening, unlike the rest of Europe ».

He refuted Mr. Mitsotakis’ letter to Ms. von der Leyen as “an admission of failure… and a communication ploy to cover up your failure.” “The problem with the domestic market is not that it is small, but that it is inefficient,” added the president of PASOK-KINAL. He developed his party’s proposals which include:

“Control on high profit rates: The main control work should be undertaken by the Competition Commission, which will investigate the profit rates of large companies and distribution chains. Targeted – VAT reduction, for at least six months, in basic food categories that show strong upward trends, especially in oil, bread and milk. Establishment of a Single Consumer Authority following the standards of other European states, so that we know which products in other countries are cheaper compared to Greece, and campaigns are made against these multinationals, which are profiting off the backs of the Greek people.

Also taxation – real and effective – on the excess profits of electricity, oil, supermarkets and banks. To reduce energy costs and ensure energy autonomy. In order to reduce housing costs, PASOK has proposed an integrated housing program that is known to the government and the Greek people.”

“We call on the Greek people to support these proposals on June 9, voting for PASOK and European social democracy, voting for a Europe of the peoples, of solidarity, of security to send a resounding message to the conservative forces, the elites and the extreme right. To send a strong and effective message of progressive change and hope, because only PASOK knows how to mobilize the progressive forces, unite them and defeat the New Democracy and Conservation”, concluded Nikos Androulakis.
