Regarding the issues of juvenile violence, Michalis Chrysochoidis emphasized that “a great effort is being made so that the Police are close to large gatherings of young people”
The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, referred to issues related to the safety of citizens and the government’s priorities, during a press conference he gave tonight at the electoral center of the ND, in Patras.
In particular, as he said, on the occasion of the completion of five months since he resumed the duties of the Minister of Citizen Protection, “in a period of five months, very important things have happened and here there is now a development, in the sense that an attempt is being made to leave behind us a series of pathologies of the past» and continued:
“For example, since the stadiums reopened at the beginning of February, we have had no incidents since then. I am happy to see thousands of children gathering together with their parents in the basketball and football fields, without any incidents. This is an achievement and a progress. I am also glad that Greece proved once again, after many years, that is, after the Olympic Games, that it can organize very big sporting events, such as the Conference League final. The organization of the final was exemplary and Greece received everyone’s congratulations, as well as a certification that it can organize and host other such events».
Referring to the universities, he said that “day by day social peace is being consolidated in our universities, we are getting rid of squatters and all these phenomena, which made it difficult and created problems for students to access universities, so that they can enjoy the good of free education” .
Speaking about domestic violence, he emphasized that “it is impressive that the trust of the Greek society in the Police increased dramatically, as a result of which the complaints of women who were abused increased dramatically».
As he added, “we have about 50 arrests every 24 hours, while we have established 63 domestic violence offices throughout the country, so that every woman, every child, who is abused, can turn to the Police and provide them with protection and safety. “As for the abuser,” he continued, “after the arrest follows his referral to justice».
Regarding the issues of juvenile violence, Michalis Chrysochoidis emphasized that “a great effort is being made so that the Police are close to large gatherings of young people” and added:
“Although this is not strictly a police matter, there is nonetheless a plan to deal with organized gangs. But those who have responsibility and should be given strict criminal treatment are the parents, i.e. those who do not take care of their children».
At the same time, he also referred to the issues of road safety, saying that “we give special importance to the issues of road behavior and criminal behavior”, adding:
“It is a personal bet, both of the prime minister and mine, to reduce traffic accidents and accidents through the new road traffic code, which will soon come into force. At the same time, through inspections, we seek to stop driving behaviors that often lead to injuries and deaths».
With regard to dealing with organized crime, Michalis Chrysochoidis, said that he signed the Presidential Decree “by which the new service, the department for dealing with organized crime, the Greek FBI, is established, in order to deal with cruel and organized crime”.
Referring to the European elections of June 9, he emphasized that “it is certainly of great importance that the victory of the ND is large and broad, so that the course of the last five years, not only continues, but is intensified and strength is given to Kyriakos Mitsotakis and government to continue the reforms in a radical way”.
He also said that “the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis has made significant achievements and successes in the last five years, having left behind the Greece of 2019, because the Greece of 2024 is progressing and prospering, while this progress is distributed to the citizens and primarily to the weak and the middle class”.
At another point, Michalis Chrysochoidis said that “every day I hear slogans and promises and many times I have the feeling that not a single day has passed since the populists, that is, since 2012 and for several years, appeared in the country, some of them looking ugly , i.e. using violence, some others promising leftodentras and some others, where through populism they cultivated hatred and division in Greek society”.
