The intra-party questioning of the leadership started as soon as the first results showed that PASOK was stuck in third place and despite the increase of its percentage by one unit since the national elections
PASOK seems to be entering an era of introversion after the results of yesterday’s European elections, which were far from the pre-election goal, the promotion of the party to second place, which had been set by the party’s president, Nikos Androulakis.
The intra-party questioning of the leadership started as soon as the first results showed that PASOK was stuck in third place and despite the increase of its percentage by one unit since the national elections.
One of the evaluation readings of the result is based on the criticism that PASOK failed to capitalize on SYRIZA’s last year of turmoil and win second place, which would have given Harilaou Trikoupi’s party the opportunity to emerge as the dominant opposition pole against New Democracy and the government.
However, the evaluation of the result will be discussed at the meeting of the political council next week and at the meeting of the Central Committee at the end of the month.
Nadia Giannakopoulou was the first to open the dance of internal party criticism, who, speaking to SKAI, left open all possibilities for the future of PASOK when asked if there was a question of a leader.
In particular, Ms. Giannakopoulou emphasized that “we must discuss everything. When we say everything, we mean everything.”
As the PASOK member of parliament noted, “in order to be able to evaluate the election result, we must compare it with the goal we had set… And the goal we had set, and our president Nikos Androulakis, and everyone in the party was that we wanted to have 2nd place and a strengthening of our percentage. Unfortunately, the 2nd place was not achieved, in terms of percentage we have an increase even if small… we were the second party until the middle of February, we are the second party in 23 regions in the province, while in the national ones we were the second party in 10 regions. The difficult issue is urban centers.”
As Mrs. Giannakopoulou explained, whether the results of the European elections were very positive, moderate or bad, we must discuss them in the party bodies.
The response to Ms. Giannakopoulou’s statements came from Panagiotis Doudonis, who accused her of having Nikos Androulakis’ statement of challenge ready, but “it didn’t produce the result she wanted”.
In the same direction as the statements of Nadias Giannakopoulos and the comment of Pavlos Geroulanos, who, when asked about whether all the issues for the next day should be put on the table, answered that “a party like PASOK cannot but put all topics”.
In particular, Pavlos Geroulanos admitted that PASOK did not achieve its goal and, in fact, despite the fact that St. Kasselakis showed the limits of lifestyle politics.
Michalis Katrinis also criticized the performance of his party, who, speaking to SKAI, said that PASOK had a small increase, but it is far from the goals and expectations that they had set, stressing that there should be an open political discussion about the assessment of the result but also for the actions to be taken for the next day”.
The MP, Odysseas Konstantinopoulos, also referred to PASOK’s goal of rising to second place, in SKAI, who admitted that “it seems that we did not succeed”.
