The Ministry of Defense of Turkey launched a fierce attack on Nikos Dendias, on the occasion of his statement about the Turkish invasion during his visit to Cyprus.

Nikos Dendias spoke about an illegal, completely contrary to International Law, invasion of Cyprus, and noted that “we are in Nicosia, the last divided city, against the principles of International Law, against the principles of the Charter of the United Nations”.

Reacting, in its provocative statement, Ankara refers, among other things, to “Turkish soldiers who will be guarantors of peace and tranquility in Cyprus and in the future, as it was yesterday and is today”.

The announcement of the Turkish Ministry of Defense

“We strongly condemn the low-level, false and slanderous statement of the Greek Minister of Defense, Nikos Dendias, targeting the Turkish Cypriots and the heroic Turkish army.

The heroic Turkish army acted in accordance with Turkey’s right of guarantee arising from international agreements and saved the Turkish Cypriot people, who were subjected to all kinds of persecution by the Greek Cypriot side between 1963 and 1974, from attempted genocide.

Thanks to the courage and presence of the Turkish soldiers, no blood has been shed in Cyprus since 1974, Greece’s junta oppression of the Greek Cypriot people has been eliminated and the military regime in Greece has been overthrown and a return to democracy has been made possible.

Turkish soldiers will be guarantors of peace and tranquility in Cyprus and in the future, as they were yesterday and are today.

We call on the Greek Minister of Defense to abandon his efforts to undermine the joint position of the leaders of the two countries, which aims to promote Turkey-Greece relations in a constructive manner. The efforts of Mr. Dendias to make a political career by sowing discord between the Turkish and Greek people will not bear fruit.”

The mock response of the Ministry of National Defense of Greece

From his side, the Ministry of National Defense of Greece answers in the announcement of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, specifically mentioning the following: “We sincerely regret that the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, during his recent visit to Cyprus, failed to “thank” the Turkish invasion and occupation forces for their “services” in defending the Principles of the Charter of the United Nations, the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, the protection of human rights and Democracy”.
