Revenue from the levy will fund subsidizing household electricity bills in August
It was voted by a majority in Parliament the provision for the special contribution to providers electricity.
The amendment of the Ministry of Environment and Energy with the provisions for the imposition of the special levy on natural gas power plants to subsidize household electricity tariffs for the month of August and for agricultural benefits in the special tariff “Gaia” was voted by the ND, PASOK- KINAL, Greek Solution and Spartans. The KKE and Niki voted against it, while SYRIZA, New Left and Pleussi Eleftherias were in favor.
This regulation, as pointed out, is necessary to deal with the increase in the cost of electricity for consumers due to the increase in the sale prices of electricity from natural gas plants to a level significantly higher than the production cost. Revenue from the levy will fund a subsidy on household electricity tariffs in August, the amount of which will be finalized by the end of the week, to keep final consumer prices close to 15 cents per kilowatt-hour.
With the same amendment, it is defined that, on the initiative of the electricity suppliers, the agricultural benefits will be transferred to the special “Gaia” tariff from August 1st. Until October 31, farmers and land improvement organizations who do not wish to remain on the special tariff can declare this to their supplier. Any overdue debts of the farmers for consumption until December 31 are settled with zero interest.
