The governor of Central Macedonia Apostolo Tzizikostas will be nominated by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his position commissionergovernment spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said during the briefing.

Mr. Mitsotakis will have a meeting with Mr. Tzitzikostas this afternoon at 6 o’clock at Megaro Maximou.

Specifically, Mr. Marinakis stated during the briefing of the political editors: “Greece will propose for the position of Commissioner in the new European Commission Apostolos Tzizikostas.

The prime minister has already informed the president of the European Commission about this Ursula von der Leyen.

Apostolos Tzitzikostas is a person with experience in institutional roles both in Greece and in Europe, where in 2020 he was elected president of the European Committee of the Regions.

At the same time, the governor of Central Macedonia is a man who has been elected three times with percentages above 50%.

The choice of Mr. Tzitzikosta is a choice with political characteristics, which highlights the importance of Macedonia and Northern Greece, a region with a strategic position, connectivity and geopolitical importance both for the Balkans and South-Eastern Europe and as the north-eastern edge of the Mediterranean”.
