The three-member committee that has taken over the case of Christos Spirtzis refers with the request for deletion at the plenary session of the Ethics Committee of SYRIZA that will meet on Tuesday.

Christos Spritzis was again summoned to an apology by the Ethics Committeewhich met today regarding whether his deletion from SYRIZA-PS will proceed.

The following is the Council’s statement:

The three-member Council of the Ethics Committee appointed to examine the complaint concerning Mr. Christos Spirtzis met today 5/09/2024 and recommends the following to the Plenary:

“S. Spirtzis once again ignored the ED’s invitation to meet with our Council today and provide his explanations. Instead he chose again to send a new letter with content similar to the previous one, which was returned to him by the ED as unacceptable, and at the same time he appeared as is his established practice on various radio and television shows continuing his well-known attacks.
Following the above, the Council considers that the behavior of Mr. Spirtzis constitutes a serious disciplinary offense.

Given that according to the Statute and the Code of Ethics, the Ethics Committee for members of the Central Committee cannot make a decision on the disciplinary penalties of suspension of membership and removal before the opinion of the Central Committee has been obtained, we recommend that the case be referred to the Central Committee , for the formulation of her opinion. The reference in question will be made after a decision of the plenary session of the ED”.

It is noted that the referral of Christos Spirtzis to the Ethics Committee with the question of his removal from SYRIZA – PS, is requested by 70 members of the party.

The chronicle of the conflict

The members accuse Spirtzis of vicarious and anti-party behavior, while the complaint states that he operates with a personal agenda “openly questioning both the work of the president, Stefanou Kasselakis as well as the possibility of SYRIZA to deliver the dominant pole that will challenge the sovereignty of K. Mitsotakis”.

Responding to the accusations, Mr. Spirtzis, in a letter sent to the SYRIZA Ethics Committee, accuses the leadership of tactics while speaking of a pre-emptive decision to delete him by the president and the leadership of the party.

In particular, in his letter to the Ethics Committee, Mr. Spirtzis states that “with the chosen tactic of the President and his supporters, the formulation by Stefanos Kasselakis of alien positions with the authorities and the positions of our party but also the creation of issues that constantly cause introversion and a toxic climate inside SYRIZA-PS, only the ND is served”.

Mr. Spirtzis speaks of “factions” characterizing as a violation of the statute the fact that the Commission accepted the complaint of the 70 members of SYRIZA.

“However, it is obvious that when a complaint is filed by 70 members, belonging to completely different member organizations, different prefectural organizations and bodies, in a single text, this is in itself the definition of forming a faction, which is prohibited by our Statute and as per therefore, not only should it have been rejected, but the 70 signatories should have been summoned for explanations”, says the SYRIZA executive in the same letter.

The former minister, speaking today to SKAI, repeated his criticism of the actions of the president of the Official Opposition and noted that “if I am removed it will be an honor, because I expressed my views that I will not stop saying”, adding that the he himself does not question the president, but his tactics in the European elections, as the results were disastrous.
