Today, Thursday, the “Nearchos”, the second FDI HN frigate – known as Belharra, which is being built at the shipyards of the Naval Group, in Lorient, France, on behalf of the Greek Navy, enters the water.

The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, goes to France, for the frigate launching ceremony. Mr. Dendias is accompanied by the Chief of the GETHA, General Dimitrios Houpis and the Chief of the GEN Vice-Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras PN.

As he states in his post, “I am going on Thursday 19/9/2024 to France, in order to attend the launching ceremony of the second FDI HN Frigate, “Nearchos”. Another important station for the Navy and the Armed Forces of Greece”.

The “Nearchos” frigate, the second after the “Kimon” frigate, has a displacement of 4,500 tons, a length of about 122 meters, a maximum speed of 27 knots, a crew of 120 people and incorporates advanced digital technologies.

These include, among others, the integrated sensor network PSIM (Panoramic Sensor Intelligence Module), where almost all of the warship’s sensor systems are gathered, the advanced anti-submarine warfare sonar, type CAPTAS-4 and the full digital Sea Fire radar.
