The majority of citizens have no reason to celebrate with ND, says SYRIZA
“New Democracy is having a fiesta for its 50 years of history, but the majority of Greek men and women today have no reason to celebrate with it”, comments the SYRIZA PS.
“Because,” he says in a statement, “these five decades, and especially the last few years, mark policies that bring the weak to their knees and despise all who do not advance the interests of the few and powerful.” In particular, he emphasizes that “accuracy consumes the daily life of citizens, especially that of low and middle incomes” and that “increases even in basic goods such as olive oil reach 56%”, while “at the same time, the government promotes policies which enhance profiteering and leave small and medium-sized enterprises struggling to survive”. He adds that “for the very expensive rents, instead of increasing the housing supply and supporting young people and workers, the ND maintains the speculative bubble of funds, banks and unproductive investment real estate that exploits in an unprecedented dimension the right to roof”.
Furthermore, regarding juvenile delinquency, SYRIZA argues that “instead of looking at the deep social causes and investing in education and social welfare, the government chooses to impose even more punishments”. “But how will violence be reduced, when the government itself cultivates inequality and discrimination? When it hits the workers and the weak, the very ones it is supposed to protect?” says SYRIZA. He accuses ND of “overwhelming hypocrisy” on the issue of security: “it talks about protection, while during its days crime is increasing, gangs are on the rampage and fan violence reaches murders. Police station holding cells are turning up dead, revealing the complete breakdown of any concept of social security. The people live with fear and insecurity, not only for their economic and working future, but also for their daily life”.
As for Greek-Turkish relations, SYRIZA states that “it is still waiting for the satisfaction of its self-evident request for information from the Prime Minister regarding the course and content of the talks with the Turkish side, after Erdogan’s disturbing statements”.
Finally, SYRIZA claims that “New Democracy is on the way out”, that “its president Kyriakos Mitsotakis no longer convinces either his parliamentary group or his predecessors” and that “society knows that it can no longer tolerate this dead-end policy that serves only a few”. “SYRIZA will put aside the obstacles and difficulties of the citizens, and with their support, it will fight honestly by their side to put an end to injustice and promote dignity at the basis of the progressive governance of the country,” he concludes in his announcement.
