In an exemplary manner and increased participation children, people with disabilities and the elderly the camp Program of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family worked and was completed a few days ago.

From June 1 to September 30, a total of 14 children’s summer camps and camps operated throughout the country.

The fund allocated by YKOISO increased at €4,000,000 from €3,650,000. which had been budgeted last year and concerned both their operation 14 children’s playgrounds as well as the preparation for the 2025 program.

For the first time, funds were allocated to the municipalities in advance, to plan the operation of the campsites for the following year.

In particular:

  • The total number of its beneficiaries Program of Children’s Field Trips and Camps in 2024increased by 22% reaching 7,414 people, compared to 6,091 in 2023.
  • The participation of children of typical development increased, this year by 28% compared to 2023 reaching 4,628 children compared to last year which had reached 3,628.
  • People with disabilities showed an increase of 2% compared to 2023, reaching 1,742 people, while in 2023 it was 1,701.
  • The participation of the elderly in the program was impressive, as their participation increased by 37%, compared to last year reaching and exceeding 1,000 people (1,044) while in 2023 only 762 preferred the camps for their summer holidays.

The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zaharaki stated:

“We are very happy because this year, with careful preparation, we managed to offer children, people with disabilities and the elderly,
well-kept and safe children’s playgrounds and camping areas. – We increased the places, expanded the camping periods. – We also strengthened the social supervision regarding the conditions, in all camps. This effort will continue next year as we have already allocated significant funds to the Municipalities in order to open other children’s outdoor areas and to improve the infrastructure in the existing ones.

One of the most important interventions from the point of view of political leadership in the camp program of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, was the institutionalization of mandatory control at least once in each period, while until now the control concerned the structure and was done once».
