Three different dipoles with a common denominator, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, highlighted yesterday’s first bra-de-fer of the political leaders in the Plenary Session of the Parliament, with the update on dealing with the fires after the end of the fire protection period taking on, as expected, characteristics of an ef ‘ of all the material conflict between the government and the opposition.

The session of the Plenary, which lasted over seven hours, was characterized by the movement of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to get up from the government benches and to leave the room emphaticallywhile the president of the SYRIZA-PS parliamentary group, Nikos Pappas, was on the floor and to return during the installation of Nikos Androulakis, a move that was interpreted doubly as a destabilization of Nikos Pappa and its recognition Nikos Androulakis as a key parliamentary interlocutor.

“I do not recognize as a representative of the official opposition a politician convicted by 13-0 in the special court. I protect the state, I will not greet, entertain or negotiate with him. When the official opposition party finds a leader and partisanship, I will be here to have a discussion. Don’t be surprised if I leave, this will be the tactic I will follow until SYRIZA elects a permanent leader” said the prime minister in his rejoinder, explaining his attitude towards Nikos Pappas, but also leaving a tip – photographic – for the former prime minister Antonis Samaras and his greeting with the president of SYRIZA’s K.O. at an event of the Professional Chamber.

“Who will represent the official opposition in the parliament is none of his business” was the answer of Nikos Pappa, who spoke of the prime minister’s institutional misplacedness, underlining that “he doesn’t need to like me, he himself has a history of trying to interfere in the internal affairs of other parties. Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ move was also commented on by Nikos Androulakis, speaking to the parliamentary editors, stressing that institutional empathy is needed when someone has internal party procedures against him.

The consents with Androulakis are on the table – the first test is the Ombudsman

In all his positions, however, the prime minister addressed Mr. Androulakis, accusing PASOK of making a 360-degree turn around himself, without changing anything. Kyriakos Mitsotakis criticized the choice of the president of PASOK not to vote on the bill for the changes in ASEP and asked him for proposals on a series of issues. “A lot of what you said is exactly what we do. So we can find momentum even if the wrap is harsh criticism. Decide what kind of opposition you want to have, substantial, productive and improving or “no to everything” which is not what the country needs”, said Mr. Mitsotakis, who lied to the president of PASOK for his attitude at the Conference of the Presidents of the Parliament, not to vote for the government’s proposal for the head of the Ombudsman.

“What I have seen is that you insist on this line that forced me in the past to call PASOK, green SYRIZA. I hope for the sake of democracy to be disproved. You have an opportunity to prove that we can create conditions of consent where the Constitution requires them”, added the prime minister. However, according to information, next Thursday, the Speaker of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tassoulas, is expected to once again put before the Conference of Presidents the proposal for the new head of the Ombudsman with the aim of achieving a 3/5 majority.

The nail to Samara and the reaction of the former prime minister

However, the last episode yesterday was written on the side of the governing majority, after the sharp response from partners of Antonis Samaras in the phrase of Kyriakos Mitsotakis “I will not greet, greet or negotiate with him (s.s. Nikos Pappas)”, which was interpreted as a jab at the former prime minister for his greeting with the president of the SYRIZA parliamentary group at an awards event of the Professional Chamber of Athens.

“It is obvious that Mr. Mitsotakis is attacking Mr. Samaras not because he greeted the official opposition leader who happened to sit next to him at a public event. The real reason lies in the “calm waters” with Turkey, which are disturbed every day now, through successive provocations. So let’s deal with the serious stuff, at our borders. Without other really dangerous charades, short-lived “friendship agreements” and bowings”, concluded the statement of Mr. Samaras’ partners, placing particular emphasis on the Greek-Turkish language.
