His resignation was submitted to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, by the First Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Roussos Koundouros.

Diplomatic sources commenting on the resignation of Mr. Koundouros state:

The Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Roussos Koundouros submitted his resignation today.

-As official head of the Ministry’s political departments, he supervised their operation and was in constant communication with the political leadership for the formulation of foreign policy.

-The confidence of the current political leadership in him was demonstrated by the extension he received, for one year, from the Minister of Foreign Affairs himself, Mr. G. Gerapetritis, for the exercise of his duties, despite the completion of the retirement limit.

-Ambassador Mr. Koundouros retires in one month.

– In view of his retirement, due to the completion of the maximum age limit set by the Constitution at the end of 2024, his replacement by the current Director of the Greek-Turkish Directorate, who participated in the last meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his Turkish counterpart, had been launched, in view of the preparation of the Greece-Turkey ASM next January.

– His counterpart did not participate in the extended talks of the delegations that took place during the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Greece and Turkey on November 8.

– Until this meeting, the Political Director participated in all the meetings of the Greek-Turkish political dialogue.
