The Cyprus plan for a contingency its future membership in NATOpresented according to “Daily Sunday” the president of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulidis to the American president Joe Biden during their meeting on October 30 at the White House, for which there was a positive response from Washington.
According to the same information, Mr. Christodoulidis also presented this plan to the Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte, on the sidelines of the European Political Community Summit in Bucharest.
The Republic of Cyprus has asked the United States for the filling three main strategic objectives including the possibility of being able to procure defense equipment from the United States by changing the annual renewal of the lifting of the arms embargo to at least three or five years.
Second request is the further upgrade in the field of joint training of members of the Cypriot National Guard in military academies of the United States.
Third objective is the defining contribution of the United States to the gradual modernization of Cyprus’ defense capabilities and military forces, facilities and assets to NATO standards.
