American policy in relation to the Russians S-400 which has been purchased by Turkey and the acquisition of F-35 has not changed, was the answer given by the representative of the State Department to a question of SKAI’s correspondent in Washington, Michalis Ignatiou.

“The American requirements for the purchase of F-35s from Turkey are known and our policy has not changed. Turkey’s continued functionality in NATO remains a critical US priority,” the spokesman noted.

He added that “the US remains committed to vigorously implementing the sanctions provided for in the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) to prevent arms exports that bring revenue, access and influence to Russia.” The US looks forward to resolving the issue with Turkey in a productive manner.”

Turkey’s purchase of the S-400s, even though the Russian anti-missile system is no longer a threat, violates US laws and specifically the CAATSA law that provides for arms exports by sanctioned Russian companies.
