“Inactivity and immobility is not an option – at any moment we can have a hot episode and have a new case of Sminagos Iliakis” said the Foreign Minister
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos, spoke to Real FM about the background and developments in the dialogue with Ankara, the latest provocative statements by the Turkish Minister of Defense, Yasar Guler, and the recent statements by Antonis Samaras that led to his removal from New Democracy Gerapetritis.
Regarding Güler’s statements: “All the positions that are being developed, about the blue homeland, maritime zones, demilitarization, gray zones, are all Turkish theories, which have been developed for decades. We did not believe that these positions were going to be reversed overnight. And for this reason we made a basic choice: to proceed on the basis of a Positive Agenda. That is, to build trust between the two governments and the two peoples, primarily in those chapters, which can unite us and then to make the attempt to solve the much bigger permanent issues, which are troubling us” said the Greek Foreign Minister .
“We always respond with prudence and prudence, with deep knowledge of international law, with deep knowledge of the entire historical path that has led here. But I want to be very clear. Firstly, we are never going to discuss issues that go back to the sovereignty of the country, because these constitute a unilateral, inalienable and inalienable right of our country. And secondly, Greece will always discuss in terms of international law. And today he can also discuss in terms of power” he emphasized at another point.
Regarding Antonis Samaras and his statements “you don’t talk to the terrorist of the other side”
“I particularly respect Mr. Samaras and his historical path and his contribution to the country. On the other hand, I am not allowed, from my position, to comment on the exercise of the Prime Minister’s authority. Where I can answer is in matters of foreign policy” replied G. Gerapetritis.
In response to the question of whether it is “advisable to discuss with Turkey?” the minister replied:
“There are three ways: the way of dialogue…the way of inaction, of immobility, and a third way, which is war.
Inactivity and immobility are not an option – at any moment we can have a hot episode and have a new case of Sminagos Iliakis” said the Foreign Minister
So, between these three paths our choice is the choice of dialogue. A choice, which comes with wisdom and prudence […] Inactivity and immobility are not an option for me. War is probably not an option. We will continue in the logic of dialogue, self-confidence, prudence, sobriety, without fear”, stressed the Foreign Minister.
