“The citizens of Thessaloniki have been deprived of quality public transport services for many years”, said Mr. Androulakis
The Thessaloniki Metro was visited by the President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, a week after its opening.
At the depot in Pylaia, Mr. Androulakis was informed by Nikolaos Kouretas managing director of “Hellenic Metro”, Carlo Biankos managing director of THE.MA. and Giorgos Zygogiannis, Operations Manager of the Thessaloniki Metro.
He then went to the Venizelos station where he was guided to the archaeological findings by the head of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Thessaloniki, Elisavet Tsigaridas, and boarded a train running the relevant route.
In his statements, Mr. Androulakis stated among other things:
First of all I want to say thank you very much for today’s moving tour which highlights the richness and history of the city.
Unfortunately, the citizens of Thessaloniki have been deprived of quality public transport services for too many years.
For us, the opening of the Metro is only the beginning, because our plan includes the completion of the project towards the airport and Kalamaria and of course towards western Thessaloniki. We believe that at the same time the OASTH should be upgraded and both instruments should operate under a single management body and always under public control.
If this plan is completed, I am sure that Thessaloniki will gain a strong development perspective and citizens will experience a better daily life for many years to come.
The President of PASOK – Movement for Change was accompanied by Anna Diamantopoulou, responsible for Political Planning, Anastasios Nikolaidis, Member of Parliament for Drama and responsible for K.T.E. of Infrastructure-Transportation, Thanasis Glavinas member of the Coordinating Political Center, Katerina Solomou member of the Coordinating Political Center, Dimitris Sarigiannis Secretary of the Infrastructure Sector and party officials.
