On December 16, the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, took the initiative and tabled the proposal not to sell fuel to bicyclists without helmets. The Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, as well as the federation of gas sellers, agreed with the proposal and the Ministry of Development drafted the relevant amendment, which will be submitted as soon as the Ministry of Transport submits the new K.O.K. in Parliament.

Speaking today to the competent Committee of the Parliament, Mr. Theodorikakos, emphasized that “very important social work is being carried out in this committee. In fact, I want to thank the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, for his thought and initiative. Because there is nothing more important than human life and health, than protecting young people. Because most of the people who drive are mostly young kids who are at an age where they feel invulnerable. We have to do everything to save human lives, that’s why we responded immediately.”

The Minister of Development continued that “this initiative deserves to be embraced by everyone. It is a good opportunity for a nationwide campaign, to attract everyone’s interest, to help everyone, for the self-evident habit of wearing a helmet when we are on the motorcycle. So that we don’t lose even one of our fellow human beings again and we must all help”.

He also stated that it is an initiative that had a positive response from the gas station owners and “it is an act that combines a socially useful human idea and at the same time we also give the legal coverage to the gas station owners to be able to implement it”.
