Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Archbishop of Athens, Ieronymos, discussed current issues concerning State-Church relations, especially those that have a social sign in the context of the deepening of cooperation between the two institutions, according to sources from the Maximos Palace.

In the discussion they had in front of the cameras, the prime minister and the archbishop mentioned the loss of the archbishop of Albania: “These are difficult days for Orthodoxy as a whole. I think we were all particularly touched by the loss of the Archbishop of Albania. I was lucky enough to know him personally. He was indeed a great hierarch and a great man, who accomplished a unique work in Albania, essentially rebuilding a destroyed Church, but first and foremost he was a man of God who cared about people. That’s why I will have the opportunity, we will also be together at the funeral procession in Tirana to honor him as he deserves”, emphasized Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“He was indeed a man of the few. I also met him and was with him since the third year of high school. God rest him. Thank you for your participation in both our mourning and our bitterness, but these are human. Today we have come to tire you, to greet you, to see you up close and to say our things, yours, the things of our time”, noted, for his part, the archbishop.

In the immediate future, the procedures for the succession of the blessed Archbishop of Albania will be opened, while mobility is already being recorded.

The Metropolitan of Kortsas Ioannis appears as the most dominant for the succession, while he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Church of Albania as supervisor of the Archbishop’s Throne until the procedures for the appointment of a new Archbishop are completed.

Internally, the issues that concern Church-State relations and once again are expected to be discussed today, are little-known. They concern property issues, with the Church pressing for the satisfaction of a series of requests related to the determination of land uses, such as for an area in the area of Vouliagmeni or for the payment of compensations for areas that had been granted to the public for specific purposes, which were not implemented.
