Christos Dimas and Nikos Tahaios- Nikos Tahaios- Tunnel for slight traine maintenance was made on the construction site of the metro line 4 of the subway 4.
The site of the Metro Line 4 site at the height of the GNA where the tunnel will be opened, which will host the Light Maintenance Area, was visited today by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for the infrastructure.
In the tunnel, an autopsy was carried out by the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, as well as by executives of “Hellenic Metro SA” and the contractor consortium.
After the autopsy, the following are clear:
There is no security issue.
There is no mistake in the tunnel engraving.
No situations or movements have been recorded either at the level of the street or in the adjacent buildings.
Essentially it is a section of a super-track tunnel with a total length of 370 m and is located beneath Kanellopoulou Avenue (Katechaki). It will have three orbits and serves to deposit the lines of line 4 for their slight maintenance.
Work is ongoing
Tunnel opening work is continued in accordance with the initially approved methodology and conventional means of opening.
Answers – Clarifications on the construction of a tunnel of the Metro Line 4 in the area of ​​Katechaki Avenue, was also issued by the Contractor, stressing that the project is executed with complete commitment to the safety, quality and speed of construction of the project.
The opening of auxiliary tunnel 186m which joins the main subway tunnel with the stand -based Aviation Hospital is provided by approved project studies, constructed precisely and correctly in the position indicated by these studies and will of course remain in the same position.
According to the approved study, the construction of this auxiliary tunnel is done in two phases, due to its large cross -section: during the initial phase the first level of the tunnel is opened, and in the next phase the second level is opened, at greater depth, so the construction is completed.
The correspondence of the contractor with the Hellenic Metro SA, a different approach arose solely on the sequence of the excavation work, without of course raising a question of allegedly incorrect position, no other security issue. This current issue, along with those that reasonably arise in the performance of such a large and complex project, will be settled in accordance with the relevant contract for the construction of the project.
Finally, it is noted that no unexpected surface sedimentation has been established, as all relevant values ​​are very low and within the permitted limits.
Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas stated:
“Initially, I would like to clarify that our experts assure us that there is no issue of security for workers, project or infrastructure.
Also, there is no mistake in the degradation, that is, no tunnel was not opened, as written in some media.
On the contrary, this tunnel is provided for the design of the Athens Metro Line 4 and is included in the reports regularly published by Hellenic Metro SA on the progress of work.
This tunnel is part of an auxiliary hub that will essentially use as a train station, that is, for the parking and redirection of trains. It is not part of the main railway line but the auxiliary network.
The issue that arose is due to the method used to open the tunnel by the contractor, as the usual sequence of actions was not followed.
The restoration and execution of this part of the project with the usual method has already been launched. “

“The tunnel built beneath Katechaki Street will act as a train station for slightly maintenance of lines on line 4.
