Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will go to Odessa tomorrow, Wednesday, June 11
Government sources recall that the Greek prime minister had visited Odessa in March 2024 and note that this city has a special historical and emotional burden on Greece, as it is one of the most important centers of Greek education and the seat of the Friendly Society. Hence, as the same persons say, our country’s intention to contribute to the reconstruction of Odessa, whose historic center was proclaimed in January 2023 World Heritage Site by UNESCO. As they recall, the first Ukraine -Eastern Europe Council was held at the initiative of Kyriakos Mitsotakis in August 2023 in Athens, where the first similar meeting at the leaders’ level – with the participation of leaders of the Western Balkans and European Member States.
According to government sources, Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to repeat Greece’s support in Ukraine, as well as to emphasize the interest of Greece and Greek companies to participate in Ukraine rebuilding projects, especially in the areas of infrastructure and energy. It is also expected to repeat Greece’s support in the accession perspective of Ukraine (and Moldova) and the Western Balkans, if they meet the conditions and proceed with the required reforms.
Tomorrow Thursday, June 12th, the Greek Prime Minister will pay a bilateral visit to Moldova, where he is expected to send a message of support to the country’s European perspective, which Greece supports from the outset, as well as a message of willing bilateral cooperation, in particular.
On Thursday afternoon, the Greek prime minister will go to Sweden, where he will meet with Swedish counterpart Ulf Kristersson. Government sources point out that issues of bilateral interest, as well as priority issues on the European agenda, focusing on collective European defense, in view of the NATO Summit in The Hague and the June European Council, will be discussed.
It is also recalled that Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his Swedish counterpart had met last December at the informal north-south meeting organized in Lapland by the Finnish prime minister with key issues on the agenda and the migrant and the migrant. EPP’s margin in Valencia.
