The situation in Mariupol, and in particular for the thousands trapped in the long-suffering city of Ukraine, was discussed by Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis and the consul of Greece in Mariupol Manolis Androulakis.

Mr. Varvitsiotis congratulated and thanked Mr. Androulakis for his services and dedication to duty. In addition, he stated that with his attitude he honored the homeland and gave a strong message of support to the Greek community being tested there.

The situation in Ukraine was at the center of their discussion, with the deputy minister stating that the images of the war and the destruction of Mariupol conveyed to him by the consul general describe a city that will be very difficult to rebuild: Ruins, demolished infrastructure and mass graves of innocent victims are just some of the consequences of the Russian invasion.

He was also informed about the lives of expatriates who are in danger, as they find it difficult to escape from the horror since the humanitarian corridors do not open.

“There is an absolute need for a ceasefire in order to free the thousands of civilians whose lives are in danger,” he said. Βαρβιτσιώτης.
