Manchester United foiled Barcelona’s attempt to sign Harry Maguire with Frenkie de Jong.

United and Barcelona are discussing the prices of Erik Ten Hag and De John, the main Dutch signings this summer.

According to The Sun, ‘Barcelona’ was interested in buying Magwire and asked to include British players in the contract to send De John to the Premier League.

However, United rejected the request with the club. The club is currently approaching 669 million direct cash transactions with the midfielder.

A number of defenders, including Eric Bailey, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Aaron Van Bisaka, have been given the green light to leave Old Trafford this summer.

However, according to the report, United did not want to part with 10-year-old Magwire, who wanted to work with a former Leicester City star.

Magwire arrived at United for £80m in 2019 and was named club captain just six months later.

The 29-year-old had a disastrous 2021-22 campaign and was scolded by the fans for his poor form and poor performance.

He’s sticking to the 10 Hague plans, but it’s not yet clear if Magwire will remain club captain with the Dutch.

According to this month’s report, Ten Hague is keen to pick someone to wear an armband in the dressing room, and David de Gea could be the first-team favourite.
