Johnny Bainesu assessed the clash with Virat Kohli during a test against India in England on Sunday and said it was a “big crack” at Edgbaston.

It was another big day for the Yorkshireman in the England jersey making 106, but on Monday’s fourth day, India is in tight control.

The tourists led 257 runs at 125-3 in the second inning, with Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant arriving on Sunday to look great.

India could have ruled, but Kori was confused by Bainsu’s wonderful tackles as he exchanged a few words with the British before the referee arrived.

Bainesu showed his side at the end of the game and beat him like two passionate and competitive players who enjoy the heat of the fight.

“There was literally nothing,” the 32-year-old told Sky Sports. “We’ve been lucky enough to be able to play against each other for over a decade. We’ve had a fierce battle on the pitch. We’re very lucky to play there.”

We are two very competitive people, we go out on the field and do what we love. That’s why we play games. We have 11 guys on both sides who want to do well for each country.

“That’s passion and that’s your purpose. There’s literally nothing. It was just a big crack right there.”

After winning 1 and 16 in his first test against New Zealand in June, Bainesu was under some pressure but returned to his most spectacular form.

He scored hundreds of points in three successive Tests last month after hitting 136 against New Zealand at Trentbridge and 162 against the same opposition at Headingley.
