German newspapers claim the Euro 2022 runner-up was “cheated” during England’s historic victory at Wembley after the “holy hand” was not penalized.

The Lions ended their wait to win England’s top soccer trophy for 56 years on Sunday, beating eight-time champions Germany 2-1 in the thrilling European Championship final.

After Lina Muggle called off Ella Thun’s first round in the 11th minute, the main event in front of a record audience of 87,192 seemed headed for a penalty.

However, Chloe Kelly won the victory in extra time and held England’s first major women’s trophy, celebrating Wembley and the whole country with delight.

Not only did Germany miss out on a record ninth European Championship trophy a bit, they felt they should be penalized anyway on the scoreboard level, which was heartbreaking.

Lioness captain and Arsenal defender Leah Williamson survived the tense moment when she collected the ball in the first half of the goal kick.

Germany awarded a penalty, but the Ukrainian referee Kateru Namonzul denied it and restarted play after a brief VAR review.

German coach Martina Foss Tecklenburg said the decision “harmed” her team, worried authorities would not intervene.

Built, one of Germany’s biggest newspapers, went a step further, claiming that the 2003 and 2007 world champions were “cheated” and “cheated” into unprecedented finals.

Many German fans are still angry about England’s controversial third goal in the 1966 World Cup final, Bilt said: Even with the evidence in the video, we are lying.

“By losing 2-1 after extra time, we were fooled again almost exactly 56 years after the Wembley goal scandal.”

Sir Geoff Hurst’s stunning hat-trick helped England beat Germany 4-2 in the 1966 World Cup final, but debate continues over whether his third goal crossed the line.

Bilt also told former referee Torsten Kienhofer: The hands were above the shoulders and it is not clear to me that there was no VAR instruction from the referee.

German coach Vos-Tecklenburg said: “At this level, in the European Championship final, this should not happen.

“Do you want to talk about why no one saw it?” This is what I really want to hear. It happened to us today, but if it happened to them, I would feel the same. I’m really curious. “

While Germany put Wembley in a deplorable state, Salina Wigman’s England celebrated one of the country’s greatest sporting achievements.

The Lions coach said: I can’t believe it. It’s unbelievable.

If you really want to win and get better every day, that’s what I’ve noticed, it’s amazing, they want to do it together.

“We agreed on a few things about the action. It wasn’t just words, we lived it. The game was very close and there was a bit of a fight, but no matter who cares, I won 2-1. We are champions of Europe.

“We had to break the barrier with Spain and start over. I don’t have any secrets. I don’t think I can understand what is going on. It will take some time.”

England captain Williamson added:

We want them to come to the WSL game. The legacy is that this team is the winner and this is the beginning of the journey.
