Hey, how’s it going?
In 45 years of living, and 25 years of journalism, I haven’t come across a better way to start a conversation.
Yes, a conversation. Because this blog is meant to be our space. “Our who?”, the rare reader would ask, as his friend Juca Kfouri would say. We, the runners, come on.
It took me a while to accept myself as a runner. I didn’t see myself good enough to carry the weight of that adjective. I put on my sneakers and train almost every day. I do it for pleasure, without commitment. Does that make me a runner? Before I thought no, but now I understand yes.
Racing is the most collective of all individual sports. I could be wrong, but street racing is one of the only events where amateurs can compete against the world champion. You and an Olympic medalist can share the same track. It is this spirit that I would like to bring to the blog On the run, which debuts today. This space is for you who, like me, run “just” because you like it. And it’s for those who train seriously, with a spreadsheet, or who compete professionally. All are welcome. Here are stories about torn sneakers, perrengues and bruises. And also about unforgettable races and stories of overcoming.
Let’s go together. Let’s run?
