Great performance from Erion Knighton as just days after winning bronze at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon he took victory at the Hungarian meet in a Games record 19.88. The 18-year-old now holds seven of the eight fastest times ever recorded by any athlete in the 200m event in the under-20 category.
The event was a World Athletics Continental Tour gold level meet in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, and for the record, Canada’s Aaron Brown finished second in 20.24 with Dominican Alexander Ogado third in 20.38.
It is recalled that the impressive Erion Knighton had finished in fourth place at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, while a few months ago with 19.49 he had achieved the fourth fastest time in the history of the competition, which he maintained until Oregon with Noah Lyles scoring 19,31 and surpass him.
In the same race Knighton, as mentioned above, ranked third with 19.80, impressing once again, while it is worth mentioning that he holds the world records in the K18 and K20 categories in the 200 meters with 19.84 and 19.49 respectively.
Still only 18… ??@ErriyonK breaks the @GyulaiMemorial 200m meeting record clocking 19.88. The world bronze medalist now owns 7 of the 8 fastest times ever by an U20 athlete in the 200m ????
