Manchester United must have looked nothing like the team that opened the season with two defeats after a spectacular 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Erik ten Haggy had the worst start of his life as United manager, losing softly to Brighton and Brentford, but the improvement from those defeats has been absolutely huge for Jürgen Klopp’s men.

It was the energetic, committed and aggressive performance that fans have come to expect, proving that the Red Devils have much more to offer their opponents than just determination and energy, but quality.

Jadon Sancho scored the first goal at the start of the second half with great control and a shot.

Like Sancho, Marcus Rashford, who has struggled with his form for some time, also showed why he started in Manchester United’s backline and outclassed Alisson Becker in style.

United were the team to win comfortably, but after Mohamed Salah’s wink at David De Gea after ten minutes made them very nervous, they hung on.

Ten Haggy has made a bet to keep Cristiano Ronaldo and captain Harry Maguire on the bench and not pick a great player. when he got the first win from him.

After an impressive start at Old Trafford, the hosts squandered a golden opportunity when surprise debutant Anthony Elanga fielded Alisson just ten minutes later.

Sancho scored first in the 16th minute, but lobbed the ball over the English full-back from outside the penalty area after a good exchange between Christian Eriksen and Elanga on the left.

The former Dortmund man let James Milner past before accidentally finding the bottom corner as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson looked on.

The Red Devils continued to dominate the first half, and their only complaint in the second was that they didn’t have to wait for another goal in the second stanza, but they weren’t winning.

Jordan Henderson put the ball in midfield and half-time substitute Anthony Martial gave Rashford a chance on the counterattack.

The England striker was just wide of the mark, but escaped from Joe Gomez and deftly beat Alisson at the near post to score his first Premier League goal since January.

Liverpool started creating chances in the last 15-20 minutes and used the Talisman in the last 10 minutes to keep the game alive.

De Gea saved the shot from substitute Fabio Carvalho, but Salah went home.

However, the equalizer could not be equalized, and with Martial and Ronaldo seen alive from the bench, if anything, it seemed more likely that the hosts would score again at the last minute.

The Red Devils are 14th in the Premier League standings, three points ahead of Liverpool, while the Reds are 16th.
