Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Wesley Fofana from Leicester City for £80m on a seven-year deal.

The French Under-21 international has become a key target for Thomas Tuchel after signing for Jules Condé from Chelsea at the start of the transfer window.

Fofana has missed Leicester’s last two games, including the loss at Stamford Bridge, with Brendan Rodgers insisting the center half were unfit to play.

The 21-year-old is delighted with his recovery and looks forward to starting his career at Chelsea.

“These two days are very important days for me and I am very happy,” said the former Saint-Etienne defender.

“This morning I trained with the team and it was a dream come true. I’m very happy to start the match for the fans and the club”.

“I’m here. Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and everything. I’m here to win and the club is made to win titles, so keep it up. I’m here to

Chelsea is keen to strengthen its defense after the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who became free agents in June.

“Wesley is a very promising defender who has already shown his qualities in the Premier League at a young age,” added Chelsea owner Todd Boley.

“We are delighted to bring one of Europe’s most exciting talents to Chelsea and strengthen this area of the team both this season and next.”

Fofana joins a side struggling for form after losing their last two home games following last night’s 2-1 loss to Southampton.

“We didn’t have all the answers right after the game, but obviously we weren’t tough enough to win an away game,” he said in the post-match press conference.

It’s a bit like the game against Leeds. At Leeds, we thought the problem was that we couldn’t score in the first 20-25 minutes, but when we conceded two goals in two minutes, we lost our balance and couldn’t find the answer.

“Today we scored a goal so it was clear that everything was going well, but then we lost again, we didn’t defend well and we were unbalanced and we couldn’t handle that today.
