Nick Kyrgios has announced that he will retire from tennis if he wins the 2022 US Open, amid a renewed rivalry with Karen Khachanov.

Known for his antics on and off the court, the tennis bad boy secured a tie in the men’s singles following an impressive performance from Rafael Nadal, with a spectacular fourth-round win over No. 1 seed Daniil Medvedev.

Nadal lost to US No. 22 Francis Tiafoe and set up a quarter-final against Andrei Rublev, who beat Britain’s No. 1 Cameron Norrie on Monday.

The other eight final matches are Carlos Alcalaz and Janic Sinner, while Matteo Berrettini faces Casper Rudd. None have won a Grand Slam. That means Kyrgios has a real chance to win after a shocking run in July. in the Wimbledon final.

“It’s the last and biggest tournament of the year,” Kyrgios said. We have to stay strong, keep pushing each other and stay positive.

“We’ll go home next week, but maybe in three more games we won’t have to play tennis.”

But after saying he doesn’t want to reach another Grand Slam final after losing to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon in 2022, the fierce Australian’s comments should be taken with a grain of salt.

To reach his second Grand Slam final in a glorious year, Kyrgios must first beat Khachanov in tomorrow’s quarterfinals.

The couple had a disastrous 2020. Kyrgios called Khachanov an “absolute pelican” after disagreeing with the behavior of some of the tennis players during the coronavirus pandemic.

I do not have any problem with you. But when you sit at home and write various comments about the players, it makes you think about who has the real problem,” Khachanov told Kyrgios.

The Australian replied: ‘So what do you think the players did wisely during this pandemic?

I’d love to have a sensible conversation with you, but I’m not sure it’s more than kicking the ball.

Khachanov added:

However, Kyrgios objected. But his method of investigation is a complete pelican.

Kyrgios will face Khachanov on Wednesday at 1:15pm UK time at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Wimbledon runner-up will reportedly “make millions” from the upcoming Netflix documentary.
