Olympiacos surrendered unconditionally!

by

He disappeared from the field after 60′ and sees Olympiacos walk away from qualification! The “red and white” paid for their mistakes, but also for the large gaps they had in midfield, allowing Karabagh to pass with an emphatic 3-0 from “G. Karaiskakis”.

Three defeats in as many games for Piraeus, who are now in a particularly disadvantaged position even in third place, with the Azeris reaching 6 points.

Debut for Marcelo, who is clearly unprepared and needs more time, while o Mitchell he took risks to chase victory and left his team “bare” midfield. Huge cheers for Cisse, but also slogans against the players who in the last half hour surrendered unconditionally to the appetites of the Azerbaijanis who struck on the counter-attack.

In a week, Olympiacos will play in Azerbaijan and only with a win will they stay alive, with the “red and whites” now turning to the game against OFI for the 7th matchday of the Super League!

In the coach’s mind

Mitchell lined up Olympiakos with 3-4-3. Tzolakis in goal, with Vrsaliko, Embila, Cisse in the trio of stoppers. Avila and Reampchuk on the sides, with Kunde, Bouchalakis in the midfield. Biel and Gary Rodriguez on the wings, with Wee-Joe on top.

With 4-3-3, Gurbanov took down Qarabag. Magomedaliyev in goal and Vesovich, Mustafazade, B. Huseinov, Yafarguliyev in defense. Garaev, Richard Almeida, Cadi in midfield, with Leandro Andrade, Zubir, Owusu making up the attacking trio.

The match

Karabagh wanted to catch Olympiakos in his sleep. Targeting Reabchuk, Cisse managed to pierce the Piraeus defence, threatening in the 3rd minute and scoring in the 5th minute with Zubor. Fortunately for the home team, the goal was disallowed for offside, with Olympiakos waking up. Mitchell’s team took measures on the field, were starting to press high and force the Azeris into mistakes. He put Biel, Ui-Jo in the match, Embila was cutting back and the “red and whites” were threatening.

Biel almost scored with a free kick (12′) but the Qarabag keeper took off, while two minutes later Kunde also threatened. In the closing stages, Cisse wasted a great opportunity, with the visitors looking to attack and take the lead, but Embila cleared the ball before it crossed the goal line from Owusu’s place. The match had acquired a terrible pace, the ball was going up and down and one phase succeeded the other. Gary and Wi-Jo couldn’t move… knit, with Cisse getting a touch on goal in the 36th minute but his header was cleared over the line with 0-0 going into the final half.

With Olympiakos creating, the second half began, but Gary did not make a good finish in the 49th minute, while in the 56th minute, Kunde’s free-kick went over the posts. Mitchell threw Marcelo and “G. Karaiskakis” went to… fall with the Brazilian knowing the apotheosis in his debut, while Masouras also entered the game. Somewhere there, however, came the collapse for Olympiakos. The departure of Bouchalakis initially and then that of Kunde left the hosts without a cutter, a player on the axis and defensively he didn’t…cut and Karabagh did whatever he wanted on the field.

The center was left bare, no one committed a single foul to stop the quick counter-attacks of the guests who in this way found all three goals. First in 68′ with Ovusou scoring from a four-a-four position, the VAR correcting the assistant’s mistake and finally counting the goal for the Azeri 1-0. Two minutes later, Olympiacos luckily came close to equalizing, but Masoura’s cross was stopped by the crossbar, with Cisse trying to dribble for no reason in the 82nd minute, losing the ball to Vesovic, who also passed Tzolakis for the 2-0. Four minutes later, Seidaev produced a terrific finish from Tzolakis’ closed corner to put the icing on the cake…

MVP: Owusu was particularly active and dangerous, while he was also the footballer who gave Karabagh the lead, paving the way for a wide victory over Olympiakos (0-3).

The whistle: Referee Pelito (Bosnia) had no issues, who allowed the game to be played several times.
