THE Panathinaikos started with the “right” its European obligations for the Challenge Cup overpowering me 3-1 set in Slovakia by Spartak Miyava and now the rematch of OAKA on 19/10 is… standard procedure for Dimitris Andreopoulos’ team, which is going at full speed for the qualification to the next phase of the qualifiers of the competition.
Excellent performance by the “new” Kovar, Frago and Hernandez who showed with… good morning what they are going to offer.
1st set
Dimitris Andreopoulos’ team quickly showed their moods, emphasizing the serve. The quick +5 showed to…lock Spartak Miyava who only managed in the first set to reduce the difference to 7 points.
Initially, Panathinaikos faced problems in the reception, but afterwards, Jacobsen and Fragos “shielded” the defense.
Aces followed each other mainly with Kovar and Hernandez and Panathinaikos took the first set with 25-16.
2nd set
The continuation was much easier for Panathinaikos in the 2nd set with Hernandez and Franco giving…recitals offensively. The Slovaks seemed to lose their concentration completely and Frankos with back-to-back points and with… Kovar as a companion quickly cleaned up the second set, in which the difference reached its maximum value of +14 and ended in the one with score on 11-25.
3rd set
The first two sets seem to have “awakened” Spartak Miyava who found a reaction and took advantage of the…relaxation of the “greens”.
A negative sign in the 3rd set was the reception for Panathinaikos who received 13 points from block outs and 4 from aces. The game at its most critical turning point “tilted” in favor of the hosts who won the set with 25-21.
4th set
After the lost 3rd set, Panathinaikos was not in the mood to get into adventures and managed to “open up” the difference with a quick 1-5. Jiri Kovar was decisive in the 4th set, but also Lukas Rangel who managed to… pierce the home team’s blocks several times, increasing the difference to +11 for 11-22. There Spartak would only miraculously turn the situation around and Panathinaikos ended the game and the set with 14-25 making it 1-3.
Now Panathinaikos needs just two sets won in its rematch OAKA in October to celebrate qualifying for the next phase.
Spartak Miyava’s points came from 5 aces, 32 attacks, 7 blocks and 22 opponent errors and Panathinaikos’ points came from 15 aces, 45 attacks, 12 blocks and 24 opponent errors.
