Three “blue and white” medals at the U17 Balkan Wrestling Championship

After the ten medals in Pampaides-Pagorasides, Greece added three more medals in the corresponding Boys-Girls Wrestling Championship held in Romania.

The highest honor was celebrated by Nikos Giagounidis, who won the gold medal in the 92 kg Greco-Roman category. In the final, he prevailed 5-0 against Romanian Stan and the National Anthem was played in his honor.

Drosoula Gianakopoulou competed in the 65 kg final and won the silver medal. The third medal for the Greek colors went to Filippos Psomas, who climbed to the winners’ podium with the bronze medal on the chest in the 60 kg freestyle category.

Eight athletes came within a “breath” of the medals. Angelos Apostolidis (80kg freestyle), Konstantinos Tsaknakis (92kg freestyle), Dafni Brussa (49kg) and Theodora Argyriou (73kg) won the fourth place, while the fifth place was taken by Ilias Karnavas in the 65kg freestyle, Stefanos Economidis (55 c. Greco-Roman), Charalambos Kordonoulis (60 c. Greco-Roman), Lefteris Pappas 80 c. Greco-Roman).

Mattheos Hamogeorgakis took eighth place in the 71 kg freestyle category, while Loukia Karagiannis placed ninth in the 61 kg category.

In Greco-Roman, Christos Goldatsi took tenth place at 55 kg. At 60 kg, Sokratis Konstantinidis came ninth, while at 65 kg Dimitris Papavasileiou and Thanasis Efthymiadis took tenth and 11th place respectively.

Finally, at 92 kg, Dimitris Avramis came seventh.
