Tite publishes list and the Brazilian team is summoned for the World Cup; see the names

After 50 games, 88 players called up, a Copa América title (2019), a runner-up (2021), and a historic campaign in the qualifiers, Tite reached his final list. This Monday (7), he released the names of his 26 chosen for the World Cup in Qatar, his farewell to the national team.

He has already warned that his six-year cycle ends in the last game of the Cup. Perhaps in the final, scheduled for December 18.

The coach arrived at the call-up day with more certainty than doubts. The biggest one was what to do with the right side. If Danilo is the titleholder, the question was who would be the other name. Daniel Alves went to Barcelona B to do some special physical work in hopes of being called up. But the coach was considering taking an extra defender and, if necessary, improvising.

Unlike direct competitors for the title, such as France and Argentina, Tite’s Brazil arrives in Qatar with few physical concerns. Neymar, reference and captain, is in a great phase at Paris Saint-Germain (FRA). The same goes for other important names, like Gabriel Jesus at Arsenal (ING), for example.

The biggest problem was Philippe Coutinho’s muscle injury, which took him out of the Cup. If he was in condition, he would surely be called. Tite was betting on the recovery of the attacking midfielder, one of the main names in Russia, in 2018.

The injury opened the door for the call-up of Everton Ribeiro, from Flamengo.

Tite still lives with the ghost of elimination, four years ago, against Belgium, in the quarterfinals. But with the exception of that fall, precisely in the most important tournament, his resume in charge of the selection, which started in 2016, is one of few defeats. In 76 matches, he has had 57 wins, 14 draws and five negative results so far. 81% utilization.

The 26 called up will leave next Monday (14th) to Turin, Italy, where they will train until the 19th. On this date, the team leaves for Doha. The first game at the World Cup will be on the 24th, against Serbia.
