“AEK, with many sacrifices, consistency and a stable administrative framework, has invested a lot in handball, not simply for its collective success, but overall for the upgrading of the sport, its promotion and the advertising of Greek handball, of which it is ambassador internationally. We have achieved a lot at home and abroad, as any bona fide will admit without hesitation. It is therefore self-evident that we demand the corresponding respect and equality from all the players in the sport.

The referees’ mission is to blow the whistle and judge objectively in the matches. Once again, such a thing did not happen, with the duo of Mr. Patiou and Tsiana. Specifically, in our match against PAOK, on ​​Wednesday 9/11/22 in Thessaloniki, which was broadcast live throughout Greece, they made provocative mistakes and critical mistakes against AEK, which led to a clear alteration of the result, and they took away the victory from our team.

This particular dietary couple, for the umpteenth time, fell into inexplicable – for their experience – mistakes, completely coincidental and again at the expense of our team, culminating in two incomprehensible and provocative decisions. The one at 59:46, which literally changed the result, at the moment when our team was ahead (23-24) and had possession of the ball, they attributed non-existent steps to Chitobi, which allowed the opponent to equalize at 24-24, which was also the final score. Previously, with the score tied 19-19, at 50:27, to everyone’s surprise, they invented a two-minute suspension for our athlete Iliopoulos and a penalty against AEK, in a phase that even our opponents were surprised by the specific whistle!

And all this without referring to the management of the passive game and the disciplinary control during the match, but also the decisions of the observers at critical points of the match. Reasonably, therefore, we consider this specific arbitration to be biased and against us.

Frankly, we feel anger, because the lack of respect and equality, and the disregard for the good faith of our club, is obvious and defiant by the competent institutional bodies of arbitration. Our anger is even more intense, when in the previous season, with the same opponent in our stadium, we suffered the same from the specific refereeing duo, as a result of which we strongly protested with a letter to KED/OKE, requesting their exclusion from our team’s matches. We remind you that KED/OHE, for this match, punished the specific referee duo, for the faulty performance of their duties.

As a result of time, and in the context of good faith, we have accepted the definition of this particular couple in our team’s matches, in order to contribute to the smoothest possible running of the league’s matches. It seems that the good intention was only on our part. But so far!!!

Because the repeated and completely targeted mistakes of Mr. Patiou and Tsiana at the expense of our team, exceed the suspicion of bias, much more in the case that the result was altered, as now, we publicly call on KED/OHE, outside the disciplinary control of Mr. Mr. Patiou and Tsiana, to exclude them from now on from all our team’s matches.

The clubs, with great financial sacrifices, try to raise the sport higher and give it the place it deserves, in a highly competitive environment, compared to other sports. For this to happen, the need for unbiased and objective refereeing and ensuring the objective judgment of referees and observers in matches, is MANDATORY!!!”
