First and best among the “8” of the Challenger Cup is Apollon Smyrnis!

First place in his 4th group Challenger Cup, held in Kran, Slovenia, Apollon Smyrnis conquered. In the context of the 3rd and last matchday, he prevailed over the hosts Triglav me 20-6 and did 3/3, now leaving for the quarter-finals of the newly established European competition.

The hosts led 5-4 at the end of the first eight minutes, but Apollon then got serious and allowed the Slovenians to score just one goal in the second eight minutes and none until the final, in contrast to the 16 scored by the ‘amphibious brigade’.

Nikos Deligiannis, who was sent off for protesting, gave playing time to all his players (three eight minutes for Galanopoulos and one for Cavousanos under the posts) with 10 of them being anointed scorers and Bogdanovics and Goniotakis having four each!

Apollon already knows the quartet of possible opponents in the quarterfinals (double games inside and out with the first at the end of January). It will be one of Galatasaray (Turkey), Het Ravenen (Netherlands), Kozice (Slovakia), Ludwigsburg (Germany), with the latter having also faced it in the group.
