‘We never doubted’, says Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez

The goalkeeper of the Argentine national team, Emiliano Martínez, was happy to beat Mexico by 2-0 this Saturday (26), after starting losing to Saudi Arabia in the World Cup in Qatar and assured that “we never doubted”.

“We knew that if we lost we would be left out. They gave us a difficult game, but having 10 (Lionel Messi, scorer of the first goal) is always easier.”

The defeat to Arabia in the first game of the World Cup sowed doubts and put pressure on Alviceleste, but “we never doubted”, he said.

“These days have been difficult for us, but today we have shown that we are willing to do more,” added the Argentina goalkeeper.

“I always dreamed of playing in this shirt as a boy, and today my dream of scoring in a World Cup came true”, he added, before stating that “we want to win another victory, which is very important for us.”

“I’m happy to win and happy for the group, but another final is coming now,” Fernández added on TyC television.

After the victory at the Lusail stadium, Argentina faces the last match of the group stage against Poland with more tranquility, as runner-up in Group C.

“Today we managed to bring joy to people, to us, to our families. We keep fighting, as always, trying to give everything. Today, luckily, it happened and it’s peace of mind for everyone”, insisted the veteran Ángel Di María, Messi’s assistant in the first goal .

“The first game didn’t go as we had hoped. Today I think we played a great game against a great rival. We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game, that we weren’t going to win by many goals”, he added.
