France could be fined by Fifa for the absence of Kylian Mbappé in the two press conferences that took place after the team’s games so far in the World Cup in Qatar. The refusal to attend the media meeting has some justifications: uncertainty about the future and even an old disagreement with the French Football Federation.
It is in the rules of the World Cup that the player elected man of the match by FIFA must attend the press conference alongside his coach after the games. In the French debut, against Australia, Mbappé was elected best of the match but was not with Didier Deschamps attending to journalists. At the time, France received a warning.
In the second French match, against Denmark, the attacker was again the main player on the field, and repeated his refusal to speak. This time, both the French Federation and he must be fined.
Mbappé, according to the European press, has refused to speak since the beginning of France’s preparation for the World Cup because of his future. The player would be at odds with the management of PSG, the club with which he has a contract until 2025. Predicting that he would be questioned about Real Madrid’s interest or the chance of leaving French football, he avoids meeting the press.
In addition, Mbappé has already had a stronger disagreement with the French Football Federation. In September, the player would have refused to attend a photo shoot for diverging from the media contract of the national team players.
According to the newspaper L’Équipe, Mbappé questioned the contract established for marketing actions for the players, since some athletes appeared more than others. In addition, the star would like to choose the brands with which he would relate his image.
After the attacker’s complaint, the Federation issued an official note stating that it would review the contracts. Mbappé, then, returned to participate in media actions.
So far at the World Cup, he has not only refused press conferences, but he has never stopped to attend to journalists in the mixed zone after matches. Manifestations of it are limited to posts on social networks.
