Not sure about Neymar’s participation in the round of 16, says team doctor

The doctor of the technical commission of the Brazilian national team, Rodrigo Lasmar, announced that there is still no certainty about Neymar’s return for the next game, which will take place on Monday (5) against South Korea at stadium 974, in Doha, capital from Qatar.

The striker had a sprained ankle during his debut against Serbia, when he suffered a ligament injury in the region. Since then, he has been undergoing constant treatment with electrotherapy and cryotherapy to speed up his recovery.

Among the players who were already injured, right-back Danilo was the one with the best evolution. He has already started working with the ball and the perspective is that he will train normally tomorrow, at the Grand Hamad stadium, with the team. The team’s doctor says that the Juventus player should be available to coach Tite for next Monday’s match.

Neymar, on the other hand, will start doing work with the ball in the selection’s training tomorrow, Saturday (3). In addition to him, Alex Sandro, who suffered an injury to his left hip in the game against Switzerland, will also start training. Lasmar says that the athletes will have 3 days to respond to the treatments and, then, they will be able to enter the field or not in the first game of the elimination phase.

“It’s important to observe how the players’ response to this new stimulus will be. Depending on that, they may or may not be able to,” said Lasmar.

The speech took place after the Brazilian team lost by 1 to 0 the game against Cameroon, after Aboubakar opened the scoring at the Lusail stadium.

The result still keeps Brazil in the lead of group G, with six points. The team will face South Korea next Monday (5) at 4 pm (Brasília time).

With the selection already qualified for the round of 16, coach Tite opted for a lineup made up mostly of reserves. One of them was veteran right back Daniel Alves, who at 39 became the oldest player to defend the green and yellow team in a World Cup.

It was the team’s first defeat at the World Cup. In the first match, against Serbia, the team set the score by 2-0, and in the second game, against Switzerland, the team secured the classification with 1-0.

The selection faces a low with three injured players and two others going for imaging tests after this Friday’s match. Left-back Alex Telles left the field in tears after injuring his right knee and will undergo an MRI on Saturday.

In addition to him, Gabriel de Jesus also complained of pain in his right knee and will undergo tests.

For coach Tite, the high number of injured players is due to the intensity of the games added to the short recovery time between matches, in addition to the high mental demand for the players.

“The physical demand for the athletes is increasing, the space of time is short. There is a cumulative effect of the games with a shorter recovery time”, he says.
