Gabriel Jesus undergoes surgery on his right knee

Arsenal released a statement on their official website this Tuesday (6) stating that striker Gabriel Jesus, 25, has successfully undergone surgery to correct a medial ligament injury in his right knee.

Cut from the World Cup in Qatar after being injured in the match against Cameroon, the striker must miss the Premier League leader club for at least three months.

“Gabby will now begin the rehabilitation programme. Everyone at the club is behind Gabby and will work hard to get him back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

In operations of this type, players usually return to play in about three months, but it depends on the speed of recovery.

Since joining from Manchester City, Gabriel Jesus has been a regular in Arsenal’s attack. He scored five goals in his first nine games at the club. Afterwards, the offensive performance was not the same, but he continued to perform well, giving assists to his teammates and making his team remain in the lead of the English.

In the Qatar Cup, Jesus entered the field in the victories over Serbia and Switzerland and was in the starting line-up in the defeat against Cameroon, when qualification for the round of 16 was already guaranteed. But he still hasn’t managed to score goals in World Cups.

With Gabriel gone, coach Mikel Arteta must go to the market in search of a replacement to keep Arsenal in the title fight.

In addition to Gabriel Jesus, the Brazilian team also lost lateral Alex Telles due to a knee injury. Despite being cut from the delegation, he continued in Qatar and was even honored by Neymar in the goal of the number 10 against South Korea, in the round of 16.
