CBF sees itself with no choice for Tite’s vacancy and can make room for foreigners

by

Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), is not very fond of the possibility of putting a foreigner in charge of the Brazilian team. But it might be the way.

He didn’t even want to deal with possible names, from Brazil or abroad, before the end of Brazil’s path in the World Cup in Qatar. He was afraid that this could disrupt the work of coach Tite and take the weight of a bad result on his own shoulders.

The leader was afraid to work on the succession and see the news leak out. He demanded that no employee or director of the entity create obstacles to the team commander until the end of the competition. What the coach and his committee asked for was the law.

But the search was inevitable, especially since Tite’s announcement that he would not continue at the helm of the team from Canada, regardless of the result at the World Cup. The fall in the quarterfinals this Friday (9), with defeat on penalties, anticipated the goodbye.

When he was still in charge of Flamengo, Dorival Júnior, champion of Libertadores and Copa do Brasil, was a name quoted for the command of the selection and still has the possibility of being chosen, although he has already been stronger.

At the moment, Ednaldo has no idea who will replace the coach who led the country in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. He doesn’t see many options among Brazilians that he considers worthy of the position. That’s why he can make room for a foreigner.

After the game, Tite confirmed his departure, ruling out a change of plans. The decision had already been made for some time, as he told Folha before the World Cup.

“A year and a half or two years ago, I called the entire technical commission and told them: after the end of the cycle [da Copa de 2022], new leaders have to emerge and a new process has to take place. This is how you oxygenate, invigorate and evolve”, said the coach.
