New coach should be announced in January and CBF president will decide alone

The new coach of the Brazilian team will be announced in January and the decision will only be up to the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.

The director flew to Brazil on the flight that took the technical commission and some athletes (how many were not disclosed). He refused to stay in Qatar after the team’s elimination from the World Cup to Croatia, on penalties, in the quarterfinals, this Friday (9).

Rodrigues rejected suggestions that he might listen to experts or assemble a council of former presidents to decide who will replace Tite. It was already defined months ago that the coach would not remain in office after the World Cup.

The top hat argues that other representatives of the confederation chose the national team’s coaches alone and he will do the same.

Although he is not passionate about the idea, Rodrigues may come to the conclusion that it is best to hire a foreigner to lead the team. The finding is that there is no indisputable Brazilian to occupy the space.

A Datafolha survey carried out in July this year showed that 55% of the population rejects this foreign solution. 2,556 people aged 16 or over were interviewed in 183 municipalities. The margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points within the 95% confidence level.

After falling in the quarterfinals, the team should only return to the field in March 2023. The opponent has yet to be defined.

Ednaldo Rodrigues returned on the same flight as the technical commission because he considered that this was his last act with Tite and did not want to give the impression that he abandoned ship soon after the defeat.

The CBF representative at the meetings that FIFA is yet to hold in Qatar will be vice-president Fernando Sarney.
