Griezmann warns playing against Messi will be ‘different’

by

Striker Antoine Griezmann, named man of the match in France’s 2-0 victory over Morocco in the semifinals of the World Cup in Qatar, assured that the Blues keep “their feet on the ground” and already thought of Lionel Messi’s Argentina, whom he knows well from having been his teammate at Barcelona.

“A team with Leo (Messi) in it is different. We know how they play, it’s a very difficult team and in top form. There’s Leo, but there’s also a team behind, a group that’s very good, and they also have the fans on their part. Starting tomorrow we will think about how to harm them, how to defend ourselves and prepare for this final”, said Griezmann this Wednesday (14th) after the game at the Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor (50 km north of Doha).

The Atlético de Madrid player recalled that four years ago, after the semifinal of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, a 1-0 victory over Belgium, he had been moved, but highlighted that now he remains calm while waiting for the final.

“Four years ago, after Belgium, I cried, but here I am more focused on Sunday. Instead of celebrating the final, we are down to earth, we are focused on recovering well and preparing for Sunday’s game,” said.

“The Moroccans impressed me, they have been working very well tactically, defensively and offensively. After the break they caused us a lot of problems”, he admitted.

“Scoring quickly (at 5 minutes) opened the game for us and the second goal (already at 32 minutes of the second half) gave us peace of mind. We have to learn from that for Sunday”, he pointed out, without deviating from Argentina as the next goal. “The fans will be more for Argentina, but we will remain calm and try to break their defensive lines.”
